Information

  • On September 24th, there will be a concert & fundraiser at the Langley Event Center, supporting Screen Shot 2016-09-10 at 2.52.35 PMthe creation of a Youth Homelessness Shelter in Langley. There will be concerts, interactive booths, and more. West Langley will have a team of students and staff in attendance, and we encourage families to come out and join in supporting a worthy cause. There are also sponsorship opportunities for your business. We understand that some of you parents have already raised significant contributions for the cause. Thank you!   • Also on September 24 is the Walnut Grove Secondary School 25th Anniversary Celebration. I know some of you graduated from there, and thought you might be interested.
  • Picture Day is this Tuesday. I love seeing everyone arrive with their tidy hair, snappy clothes and huge smiles. Younger students will be photographed first, to try to get them captured on film (file?) before recess has its chance to wreak havoc on their outfits.
  • Monday is the first full day of Kindergarten! Woo Hoo!
  • Don’t miss Meet the Teacher & the Community Dinner on Tuesday night. Food sales support the grade 7 camp experience. Get pizza by the slice ($2), chips & veggies ($1 each) along with an array of drink choices ($1-1.50). Food service runs from 5:00 to 6:00 and is first come first serve. Join us and enjoy some dinner with teachers and staff, then visit teachers in their rooms starting at 5:30. We wrap at 7:00.
  •  We’re holding our Terry Fox Run Friday morning, with the assembly portion beginning at 9:00, and the run at 9:20 or so. Then at 1:00 the Cops for Cancer visit. Don’t forget our coin drive fundraiser for the week: Nickels on Monday, Dimes on Tuesday, Quarters on Wednesday, Loonies on Thursday (for the Cops) and Toonies for Terry on Friday. Our school goal is $884 – that’s $3.40 per student.
  • On October 5, the School District will be hosting a Community Forum about middle schools in all of Langley at the Coast Hotel and Convention Center in Langley City. Parents and staff from all schools are invited. Details can be found here. This session should be of particular interest to the parents of our younger students, as they are the ones who would most likely be impacted.
  • Thursday September 29 is Orange Shirt Day, commemorating and honouring Residential School survivors. Please wear an orange shirt to help us honour those survivors.

PAC Happenings

September is always a busy time for the PAC as we get things going for the school year.

Kindergarten Parent Coffee

Monday is the first full day of kindergarten and it is an exciting time for both kids and parents. The PAC will be hosting a special welcome  to all kindergarten parents in the library from 8:40am to 9:40am. Coffee and treats will be served. This is a great time to meet other parents from your child’s class, find out more information about the school and ask questions.

Entertainment Books

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS!!!!!!  By now you have probably had a chance to look at the latest and greatest edition of the ET Book that came home with your student last week.  These are ONLY $30!!!  Please ask your friends, family, GRANDPARENTS, if they can help support your child and the school by purchasing one of these awesome books!  Castle Fun Park, Olive Garden, Extreme Air Park, the ZOO, Dairy Queen, KOBE steak house, Walnut Grove Rec Centre and so, so, so much more!

ALL BOOKS AND ORDERS ARE DUE SEPTEMBER 28TH….!!!   As an added bonus, though… if your student sells 2 books by THIS Wed Sep 21, they get a bonus stuffy that clips onto their backpack!   Our school goal is 275… and if we reach it, Mr. Oliver is wearing his TUTU to school and perhaps showing us some of his favourite dance moves!!!  LET’S GO WEST LANGLEY!!!

Treat Day Orders

Our first treat day of the school year is Kernels Popcorn. Order forms went home last week and all orders are due by Thursday September 22nd at 9am.
