This Week @WLE – February 27, 2017

Posted: February 26, 2017

Information

  • Please don’t forget that registration for Kindergarten closes March 31, but the sooner the better as far as our planning goes. This deadline also applies to all other grades registering to change schools, so if you have moved house and are looking to register in a new school next year, you must register by March 31 to be assured of a spot there. Of course, why would you want to leave a great place like WLE?
  • Parent Teacher Interviews are coming! Registration opens Monday morning. Click here for the instructions, and . See you on the 8th or 9th!
  • Dogs love cupcakes! They do, at least, when we’re selling them (the cupcakes) to support the SPCA. Monday is National Cupcake Day in support of the SPCA. Cupcakes will be available for sale at recess and lunch. $1-2 each. Woof!
  • The second Middle School Consultation meeting is tomorrow at WGSS, starting at 7pm. Some of the possible configurations will be presented. No pre-registration is required, but you will check in with me as you enter they gym that night. The agenda is here, and child minding will be provided at the high school.

Quote of the Week

Interesting Reading & Viewing

  • This TED Talk asks us to redefine ‘nature’ in a way that makes getting ‘into nature’ so much easier. It aligns with some of my thoughts, but pushes me way beyond what I previously used as my definition of nature.
  • I make mistakes. I encourage mistakes. And I suggest that mistakes are always a source of learning. This article got me thinking more carefully about how mistakes might be classified, and about what we can learn from the various types. Mistakes are not all created equal.
  • I talked briefly at the last PAC meeting about the challenges of ‘averaging’ grades to get a single symbol (be it letter or number) to represent learning proficiency. Here’s an example to consider:
