Information
- The WE Day students are organizing a fundraiser we’re calling Brain Freeze Fridays. An order form will be coming home for Menchies frozen yogurt, where students can order a frozen yogurt treat for select Fridays between now and the end of May. Price will be $3 per yogurt. There will be a lactose-free Strawberry Sorbet option available as well. Proceeds will support the alternative income project in Haiti.
- Don’t forget that Monday is an early dismissal. Students will be dismissed at 11:26 am.
- The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser is underway. Check www.jumpropeforheart.ca for more info on the fundraiser. Envelopes came home Friday, but we and the Heart & Stroke Foundation would prefer it if students did their fundraising online. There are great incentives this year, both for individual efforts, and for the school’s program as a whole. Set up online via the website.
- Grade 7 students planning on applying to the accelerated math program at WGSS are invited to attend some extra instruction at lunch on Monday and Thursday this week. Students in this
program essentially skip Math 8, so strong basic skills are a must. These sessions will introduce and reinforce approaches to problem solving, algebra, and operations with integers and fractions. Dates and times for future sessions will be announced later this week. - There will be a Video Game Design camp at WGSS this Spring Break, for kids 12 and up.
- There is a workshop upcoming on February 25 for parents supporting LGBTQ Youth. In schools throughout the world, there are younger and younger kids and their families grappling with these issues.

Reminder that Subway munchalunch ordering ends tomorrow morning at 8:00am.
PAC meeting on Tuesday February 23rd at 6pm in the library. Everyone is welcome and child minding will be provided.
Hot lunch was canceled for Wednesday. Please place your new hot lunch order by Monday morning at 8am. Accounts have been credited. New hot lunch date is March 2nd.
Something to think about…
- Next week has Spread the Word to End the Word day (though
it’s something that I’d like to see permeate the language every day). - Who says you’re not creative? Here is a very short bit on the ‘5 i’s’ as tools we can use to break through creative blocks. The other videos in the series are also interesting, if a bit ‘packaged.’
- I love Michele Borba’s work, and here she suggests three teachable skills to help kids be self-reliant, independent and resilient.
