Happy Valentine’s Day!
Information
From the Grade 7s: Thank you so much for all the support you gave us by purchasing a CandyGram. We ran into some delivery delays, and so some will be delivered on Monday. Thanks again; the project was a great success.
- If you, or someone you know has a child entering Kindergarten next year, you might want to come out to KinderStarts on Wednesday from 9:45-11:30.
- Mr. Kozlovic and Ms. Russo from WGSS came to visit the grade 8s on Friday. Students heard about the various programs of study available at WGSS, including GatorPod, Honours English, Humanities, and accelerated math. The next visit will be on February 24th.
- The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser is underway. Check www.jumpropeforheart.ca for more info on the fundraiser. Envelopes came home Friday, but we and the Heart & Stroke Foundation would prefer it if students did their fundraising online. There are great incentives this year, both for individual efforts, and for the school’s program as a whole. Set up online via the website.
- Grade 7 students planning on applying to the accelerated math program at WGSS are invited to attend some extra instruction at lunch on Monday and Thursday this week. Students in this
program essentially skip Math 8, so strong basic skills are a must. These sessions will introduce and reinforce approaches to problem solving, algebra, and operations with integers and fractions. Dates and times for future sessions will be announced later this week.
- Young Rembrandts continue with another session of drawing lessons after schools on Thursdays. Info on the program and registration are here.
- There will be a Video Game Design camp at WGSS this Spring Break, for kids 12 and up.
- There is a workshop upcoming on February 25 for parents supporting LGBTQ Youth. In schools throughout the world, there are younger and younger kids and their families grappling with these issues.

De la PAC!
- Don’t forget to mention WLE when you shop at Cob’s Bread in Walnut Grove!
Brain Candy
- When children say ‘I can’t!’ but we know they can. More from Jessica Lahey.
- Tim Sanders talks about three ‘myths of creativity’ and John Cleese tells us that we should ‘steal’ from those who went before us. These have some implications for the things we do in schools, now, I think.
