Points to Ponder

  • This article from the Harvard Graduate School of Education talks about the importance of positivity in improving performance. What it tells us holds true for kids and for adults (but I think more for adults).
  • I’ve read a bunch lately on the value of cursive writing, and then came across this article about note-taking by computer vs. by hand. It’s an interesting read, and made me think of a seminar I took on sketchnoting (articles here and here), which might outdo both of the alternatives.
  • Parents and kids alike sometimes deprive themselves of sleep. Here’s a nice, quick video that explains why that’s not a good idea. Those adolescents who stay up late reading or on screens should be taking note (and so should I sometimes).
  • These guys just won a Juno, and I’m always inspired by the production value, and the innovation they demonstrate in their work. And if you watch this one, you’ll see a bunch of the instruments we use with music students here at WLE! And I have to say, I have watched this video a lot of times, and I can’t even manage to do one thing that one person is doing correctly! This is tricky stuff.

Quote of the week

It’s springtime – the time of daffodils, optimism and enough daylight to get out and do stuff!
