Well, the first week of school went by in its usual blink! It was awesome to hear about students’ summer adventures (with and without casts or stitches), and their cracks at the summer homework experiences. I’m a bit envious of those who spent time in Banff, as that is one of my favourite places in Canada. As always, this is our version of a newsletter, so don’t forget to check in on Sundays for the week’s news, events, and some interesting things to read.
Information
- Well, our classes are built as of Friday night, and we will be moving students into their 2017-18 classes on Monday morning. Please drop them off at their old classroom one last time Monday morning. We will move them to their new spots after attendance has been confirmed. We will dismiss for one last time through the old door, and Monday afternoon they’ll be able to show you their new drop-off door for the year.
- We are excited this year to be running SchoolCashOnline – a system that lets you make any payments to the school, for things like field trips or supplies. No more baggies! No more searching for exact change in the car ashtray (do they even make those anymore?). Watch for paper instructions to come home this week, and sign up right away! We will build our first item for payment with the primary supplies.
Accidents happen.
For your convenience, we’ve made arrangements for families to voluntarily purchase student accident insurance through the Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance program, underwritten by Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc (iA Financial Group).Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance offers protection against the unexpected costs of injury from accidents, and is especially valuable for families who:• do not have medical or dental plans,• have limited plans, as it may help supplement health and dental benefits, or• have active children who enjoy sports and outdoor activities. For complete plan details, please visit kidsplus.ca. Paper information on enrolment will come home in the first week of school.- The Langley School District offers numerous programs of choice, including Fine Arts, French Immersion, Fundamental and Montessori. Families applying for first year entry into any choice program for September 2018 will need to apply online. The online application system opens at 12:00PM (noon) Monday, October 2, 2017 and closes 12:00PM (noon), Monday, October 16, 2017.
- Lights out when it’s bright out! The Langley School District participates in an energy-saving program with BC Hydro. One component of that is to keep interior lights turned off when there is adequate natural light coming in from outside. So if you come in and it looks like we’re sitting ‘in the dark,’ remember we’re just doing our bit!
PAC Happenings
The West Langley PAC is the official parent community to support families at this great little school. Throughout the year, we host events, plan fundraisers, share information and support many aspects of your child’s learning.
HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT’S GOING ON:
- EMAIL: ‘This Week…’ emails (like the one that brought you here)
- AGENDAS: Teachers will do their best to remind kids about upcoming events and order deadlines.
- SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook (search West Langley PAC) and Instagram (westlangleypac)
- MEETINGS: Open meetings (anyone can drop in!) are held one Tuesday evening per month. Information will be shared for those that can’t make it after each meeting.
Fundraisers:
Entertainment Book Fundraiser is kicking off this week. Look out for information coming home at the end of the week.
This is one of our biggest fundraisers, supporting a lot of learning for our students during the year. Please participate and support your kids for this cause.
Upcoming:
Sept 26 – PAC Meeting @ 6 pm in the library. Let’s chat about the upcoming year, and how we can continue to support this great school. Free childminding available.
Oct 4 – Chipotle Fundraiser. Mark your calendars and save the date! Part proceeds of all orders this date will go towards the PAC. Make sure to let the cashier know you’re part of the West Langley Fundraiser. Do you work at an office? Find out how to plan a lunch party and help us earn even more.
