Information
- Happy Fathers Day, dads! We hope you had a great day today.
- Wednesday is our Grade 7 Farewell ceremony. We look forward to bidding those great kids a fond farewell, even though we’d love to keep them forever. They are outstanding kids with bright futures ahead, and we’re so proud of them. Parents of those grade 7s, we can set up the stage first thing in the morning, or whenever you have planned for that.
- I’m working on a farewell list of summer ‘homework’ assignments. I hope you’ll go for it, even if I’m not here to hear about your exploits in September. Watch this space in 2 weeks for those.
PAC Information
Hot Lunch
We are looking forward to serving the kids Boston Pizza this Wednesday! If you ordered, you will receive a confirmation email from Munchalunch on Tuesday. It’s helpful for the parent helpers if you remind your kids if they did (or didn’t) order 😊
As this is our last hot lunch date of the year, I would like to thank everyone that supported the hot lunch and treat day program this year. Whether you volunteered as a room parent, participated and purchased items, and/or provided feedback, we appreciate it! We underwent transitions with the committee itself, which is never easy. I’m proud of the way our incoming parents sought out feedback on both menu items as well as the logistics of delivering hot food while minimizing food waste. We are ending the year on a great note and will finish above projections for net sales.
GARDEN & COURTYARD
From year to year, the PAC generally has a budget line for a maximum amount of money that can be spent towards the garden and courtyard spaces. The past few years enabled us to help facilitate the garden (money from the PAC combined with hard work from Mr. Oliver and school staff) and we will be bringing in a handful of items this week. You might hear about a few new things from your kids 😊
LEARNING COMMONS FURNITURE UPDATE
Thank you to Ms. Huffer for bringing forward a great idea to update some of the reading spaces in the library. At the last PAC meeting, we talked about some of the items she requested and voted on what to purchase. You might just see this appear in the 5 Things to Roar about at the end of this week. Stay tuned for photos
LOOKING AHEAD
We are welcoming many new parents to the PAC executive for positions for the upcoming school year. While they settle into their new roles, please help them out by staying informed (it goes a looooong way! Information will be sent out via emails, the website and social media posts.
Quote(s) of the Week

Interesting Reading & Viewing
- I found this neat article about an augmented reality trail in the Shuswap, that combines natural history, First Nations oral history, and modern technology. It looks like an amazing thing to see and learn from (if you’re in that area this summer) and gives me some neat ideas for work kids could be doing around our school.
- Some people cannot help themselves but jump to the worst possible conclusion every time something goes awry for them, or doesn’t hit their expectations. While I’ve always looked at that as a personality trait that was awfully difficult to counteract, this article suggests that there are ways to stop ‘Automatic Negative Thoughts’. It develops the idea of ‘accurate thinking’ over the more frequently-heard ‘positive thinking.’
- It’s Fathers Day, and I’ve been making Dad Jokes at every opportunity. Wait, if that’s the criterion, then every day is Father’s Day for me. I found this great article on the history of Dad Jokes, and how they will never grow old. How Dad Jokes Were Born and Why They Will Never Go Out of Style.

Don’t take this as a countdown, please (I don’t count down to sad days). We thought you might want more than a week’s worth of detail, though, as we approach the end of the year.
