Interesting Reading & Viewing
- Applied Skills, Design & Technology is a part of the curriculum for all students. Sometimes we get so focused on the technology part that the other bits fall to the background. This video informs, entertains, and reminds us of the importance of design when high tech is nowhere to be found. Why the pencil is perfect. Oh, and I thought the shape was just so they wouldn’t roll off the table so easily.
- And as we’re talking about technology, here’s a thing. It might be a great idea to let the kids take something apart. And then put it together or make something new out of the pieces. It develops valuable skills throughout the process. I remember having students do that with a printer once, and despite several leftover parts when they reassembled it, the thing worked fine. There’s apparently a growing number of ‘breakerspaces’ to go with the makerspaces in schools. We’ve got a couple of students breaking and making right now, too. Watch 5 Things to ROAR About for an update on that project.
