Information
- We’re excited to have a special guest coming to speak to us about life with Autism on Tuesday, for a 1:00 start. Thanks to Mrs. Keck, and to the Fordys for organizing him for us. Family members are, as always, welcome.
- While it may not even feel like Spring is here yet, the district is already hard at work setting up Summer Session learning for students. The official website is up and running, and has links to brochures for all programs and registration details. Online registration opens this Monday, and some of the high-demand programs actually fill up, so if you’re thinking about it, don’t hesitate for too long!
- In the next few days, parents of grade 4 and 7 students will receive access codes for the annual Satisfaction Survey with the Ministry of Education. While I hope that you would be willing to come to me with feedback on how things are going for your kids at WLE, this provides you with an anonymous avenue that sends feedback to the Ministry, and ultimately to us. Please consider completing the survey when your access code comes home. If you don’t have a child in one of those grades and would like to provide feedback, you can access the survey directly by goint to the bottom-right of the page here.
- Kwantlen Polytechnic University is hosting a Family Science Rendezvous on May 13 from 11-3. It looks quite fantastic!

Quote of the Week

Interesting Reading & Viewing
- Maybe this is conventional wisdom, and maybe it isn’t, but this post claims to have the 10 specificĀ things that can guarantee happiness. In my role, 8 and 9 resonate a lot. And since changing habits takes weeks, I’d best get started.
- I found this column in the Vancouver Sun this weekend to be thought-provoking, and I don’t necessarily think I have it processed all the way. It connects with our Reconciliation Plaque Dedication assembly from Thursday of last week.
- Here’s a website with simple games you can play (in the real world, not online) with your kids to help them develop their math skills.
- Online math games like this one can also provide some practice for kids, but you have to get the right ‘level’ as it’s easy to aim at stuff you already are good at. We have lots of kids who use these, and they benefit in terms of improving fluency and recall, for sure.
